Stephen earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Troy State University in 1993. Stephen received his master's degree in education from Troy State University in 1995 and received his law degree from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama in December of 1998.

While in law school, Stephen worked as a law clerk for a highly respected insurance defense firm. Immediately following law school, Stephen took that experience and opened a law firm representing plaintiffs. This representation included but was not limited to wrongful death, auto accidents, trucking accidents, ATV accidents, medical malpractice, products liability, insurance bad faith and failure to pay, insurance fraud, and civil rights violations. This area of representation continues today.

Stephen believes the heart of the practice of law is a commitment to community service. This is manifested by Stephen's commitment to the individuals within his community.  Stephen serves as an adjunct college instructor of Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. Stephen is married to the former Julie Tew and has two children, Dawson and Anna. He is active in many local civic and community organizations.
